Rug Cleaning in Forest Park
Collection and delivery in Forest Park are included. We take the rug back to the workshop, wash it properly, and bring it home.
What Forest Park is built from
Early twentieth-century houses on the folded ground east of Highland Park — bungalows, foursquares and larger period houses on curving streets, most of them on raised foundations with original heart pine or oak floors still in place.
Restorers, second-wave owners and people who took on a hundred-year-old house knowing exactly what they were signing up for. There is nearly always work going on somewhere on the street.
The Forest Park problem
Restoration is the specific hazard here, because so many of these floors are being brought back at once. Sanding century-old heart pine throws a fine resinous dust that settles deep into a pile and then sets in place; polyurethane overspray does the same and sets permanently. A rug that stayed in the house through a floor refinish comes out stiff, with a flat grey cast that everybody reads as dirt when it is actually cured finish on every individual fibre. Plaster dust from ceiling work behaves similarly and is highly alkaline, which is its own problem for wool. All of it is far more recoverable while the finish is still soft than once it has hardened, which is the argument for getting rugs out of the house before the sander arrives rather than after.
If that sounds like your rug, send the form and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you whether it needs the full treatment or not.
